How AI helped Jeronimo tell the story of the Sinú River
When we started developing this animated short for World Environment Day the challenge wasnt just talking about the crisis in the Sinu Riverit was finding a way to tell the story that would genuinely connect with people. Through Entre Rios Museo and the Futuro Imperfecto project, with the support of Revista Anfibia and Cronos Lab, we brought together research from the Universidad de Cordoba, the voices of local fishers, and the ancestral knowledge of the Embera Katio indigenous community regarding the damage to the territory and the decline of local fish populations.
That is how Jeronimo was born, a bocachico fish who ended up narrating his own story. I used artificial intelligence tools to craft the scripts, design the scenes, and build the entire visual aesthetic, transforming complex scientific findings and hard data into a living, intimate narrative.
It was a fascinating exercise in how technology and generative art can move beyond mere technique to become a sensitive language, capable of translating reality and giving a voice to those defending the ecosystem.
